A ten-year study on workers with disabilities found they are struggling to be included. Employees with disabilities report being less engaged. They rank their work experiences lower than workers without disabilities. Only 73% of employees with disabilities say they have the freedom to use their judgement in getting their job done. Whereas 86% of employees without disabilities feel the same.
OD practitioners need to remember the various dynamics of diversity and inclusion. Workers with disabilities must be included in the thinking and planning around diversity and inclusion. We know diverse organizations have better strategies and broader perspectives to approach and solve problems. OD practitioners play a key role in ensuring all components, including employees with disabilities, are brought into the fold.
