Something heard over and over in organization development is how many people are doing it without fully knowing they are doing it. Often, people enter from related fields, such as HR, or simply find themselves to be the go-to problem solver in their organization. It’s great to get recognized as organization development professional and even get certified as one, to help hone skills and gain clarity on processes.
This is especially important during times of rapid change like we are seeing right now. Organization development is the process-based approach to change management. It helps organizations to systematically prepare and map change and be more successful at it. According to Forbes there are three phases in change management: action, movement, and momentum. These are the absolutely crucial final steps in change management. The question is, how do you get to the right change? The answer is through action research and organizational development.
Organization development takes a problem-focused, data-informed, and systemic approach to change management. It’s more than a special consultant swooping in and providing answers. It’s a process to ensure lasting change. OD professionals facilitate that process and hand it off to those who will ultimately sustain the change. So, if you’re looking to make meaningful change in your business and have your whole team on board with it, tap your OD professionals to make it happen! Don’t have internal organization development consultants? Look to hire an external consultant or skill-up your HR or other development staff in OD. Time to ride that dynamic wave to lasting change!
