2020 was a year of great change. The COVID19 pandemic showed us so many things. It demonstrated how precious life is. It highlighted things we value and things we want to change. For many, the sudden and drastic changes brought on because of the pandemic spurred a reflection on what had been truisms of the work place. Do we need to be in an office all the time? Can we be productive at home? Do I have to sit in this car for a hours a day? What about my quality of life?
As employers are looking to bring staff back to the regular grind, you may be considering a change yourself, one that will work better for you. This just may be an opportune time to find a career path that truly works for you. OD professionals like you are in demand!
Tips for finding your next big thing
Here are some tips for you to take advantage of this workforce reset.
- Sketch out your ideals – What parameters for employment do you really want? Totally remote? Flex hours? Creative freedom? List out your ideal work situation. Prioritize those items and mark your “must haves”. Use this list as a litmus test for job listings and offers.
- Know your worth – Polish up that resume! Review your experience and strengths and be ready to talk about how these skills are in demand here and now. Experience facilitating change management initiatives? Highlight that and the skills you have to help organizations through this dynamic time (be sure to complete your GIODN member profile). There really has never been a more crucial need for organization development professionals like you!
- Shine! – Review job listings on places like LinkedIn or Indeed. Reach out to your network and let them know you are looking for a new opportunity that fits your life. Connect with employers that meet your criteria. Highlight your credentials (like your Organization Development Certified Professional certificate) and experience in change management. Shine on! A whole new way to work is in your hands.
